Description:

Day 1: Transfer to Tambopata National Reserve.

Upon arrival in Puerto Maldonado, a Local link representative will meet & greet you at the airport or bus station and transfer you to our office for a briefing about the tour and meeting your travel companions.

Afterward, we will head to the port where we will get the boat for an hour to the lodge for a welcome meeting with a refreshing fruit juice of our region and your guide will take show your rooms for the following days.

After a short rest, we will have an introduction hike for two hours in the dense tropical forest, guided by an expert local guide who will take us through the trails to see a variety of trees that can have more than five hundred years, at the same time, we may observe some species of wild animals such as toucans, orioles, parrots, monkeys, snakes, butterflies, etc. We will have the opportunity to experience the magic of our Amazon Rainforest within the Tambopata National Reserve (278,000 thousand hectares protected under Peruvian laws).

After lunch, we will visit the “Monkey Island”, located in front of our lodge across the Madre de Dios River. Here there are different species of monkeys such as brown capuchin, squirrel monkey, saddleback tamarin, and white capuchin, all of them on the island after the activity we will return to the lodge.

In the night we will go in search of “caimanes” crocodiles from the Amazon. They are generally on the banks of the Madre de Dios River this time will need to bring our flashlight to get a proper sight of these majestic animals.  With luck, we may see the capybara the world’s largest rodent that can weigh 60 kilos impressive family of the Peruvian cuy. 

After this fantastic experience, we will head back to the lodge for dinner and spend the night at the lodge.

Day 2: Deep exploration of Lake Sandoval.

After an early breakfast, we will do a short boat ride to the entrance of Lake Sandoval. After reaching the checkpoint we will walk 3 kilometers (2 miles approx.) to the lake (piranha habitat) one of the largest in the Tambopata National Reserve. After listening to our guide’s explanation of this important habitat, we will have some action by getting in a rowing boat from which we will navigate the lake in search of wildlife. We will have the opportunity to appreciate many different birds, and many monkey species, among other wildlife of this beautiful area. If we are lucky enough, we will meet with a family of giant river otters (almost two meters long) who are in danger of extinction. Afterward, we will return to the lodge to enjoy a typical lunch and in the evening we will do a night walk where we can appreciate the diversity of insects, amphibians, reptiles, and other nocturnal animals before heading back to the lodge for dinner and rest.

Día 3 – Canopy above the Madre de Dios River and return back to the city.

Before breakfast, we will head back to the jungle for a canopy. We will hike up and enjoy a beautiful view of the rainforest from a different perspective, at about 30 meters high, and from platforms, we can observe different species of birds such as toucans, and macaws. After this thrilling experience, we will return to our lodge for breakfast and head back to the city.
