Day 1: To Manu through Andean valleys

We will depart from Cusco early in the morning in one of our private cars. We will traverse fascinating valleys amidst the Andean mountains and picturesque rural communities. Our first stop will be the pre-Inca funeral tombs of the Lupaca kingdom, offering a glimpse into ancient history. Following this, we will pause in Paucartambo, a charming colonial city, to enjoy a delightful breakfast.

Continuing our descent through the cloud forest, a region abundant in endemic species such as the Andean spectacled bear and the Andean cock-of-the-rock, Peru’s national bird renowned for its unique courtship ritual. Along the way, we will have the opportunity to admire orchids, bromeliads, ferns, and more, showcasing the region’s rich biodiversity. Our journey will be accompanied by the breathtaking beauty of nature until we reach our lodge, where we will spend our first night.

Day 2: Immersive Wildlife Exploration in the Amazon Rainforest

Early morning, we will enjoy a hearty breakfast and embark on a captivating hike through the lush forest, where we will have the opportunity to observe fascinating wildlife such as monkeys and a variety of birds.

Next, we will visit a coca plantation and a wildlife rescue center, gaining insights into the local flora and fauna conservation efforts. Following this, we will journey to Puerto Atalaya, situated on the banks of the Upper Madre de Dios River, 500 meters above sea level. Here, our exhilarating boat descent begins, offering remarkable sightings of diverse bird species including herons, vultures, cormorants, and more, as we make our way to the Amazon Manu Lodge. Upon arrival, we will relish a refreshing swim in the river and savor a delicious lunch.

In the afternoon, we will venture to a wetland area, teeming with vibrant birdlife, including toucans, woodpeckers, macaws, and many others. As the day transitions into night, we will embark on an unforgettable experience, observing the gleaming eyes of caimans, which emerge under the cover of darkness, before indulging in a delightful dinner.

Day 3: A Day of Wildlife Encounters and Nature Exploration

Early in the morning, we will embark on our boat and make our way to the macaw clay lick, a magnificent wall along the riverbank where various species of parrots, including the blue-headed parrot, white-eyed parakeet, chestnut-fronted macaw, and others, gather each morning. Here, they indulge in clay consumption, rich in minerals that aid in digestion and detoxification.

Afterward, we will return to our lodge to enjoy a delightful breakfast. Following this, we will embark on a 2 to 3-hour forest hike, immersing ourselves in the captivating surroundings. We will then return to the lodge for a satisfying lunch, followed by an opportunity to relax or take a refreshing swim in the river.

In the afternoon, we will venture to Lake Machuwasi, where we will explore in canoes, eagerly searching for avian wonders such as the hoatzin (prehistoric bird) and, with luck, catch glimpses of other fascinating creatures like monkeys, capybaras, and caimans.

As twilight descends, we will embark on a mesmerizing nocturnal forest walk, dedicated to discovering the diverse realm of insects and amphibians. Following this enchanting experience, we will gather for a delicious dinner and spend the night at our cozy lodge.
