Itinerary:

Day 1 – Arrival to Madre de Dios & transfer to Monte Amazonico Lodge

Upon arrival at the bus terminal or airport, a Local Link representative will pick you up and transfer you to the Monte Amazónico office for the corresponding registrations. If you have large suitcases, we suggest you repack and take only what is necessary.

Transfer by land (4X4) to our destination for approximately 2 hours until reaching the banks of the Tambopata River. Here, we will take a boat to the “Monte Amazonico – Tambopata” Lodge. We will be greeted by the staff and they will show us our rooms for the next few days. Afterward, we will get some lunch and rest before heading out to the lodge surroundings.

In the afternoon, we will take an introductory walk to the tropical jungle where we will have the opportunity to see animals in their natural habitat such as amphibians, mammals, reptiles, and wonderful insects, among others.

Day 2 – Macaw Clay Lick & Caiman Spotting at night

We wake up at 4:30 and head to the largest macaw clay lick in the world, the Chuncho Collpa, arriving after approximately 1:30 hours by boat. On the way, we will have the opportunity to see some species such as capybaras (the largest rodents in the world), sachavacas, and if you are lucky enough, jaguars. We will stop for breakfast on our way.

Once we arrive at the macaw clay lick, we will settle in our chairs and wait for the parrots of different species that come to eat clay from the wall adjacent to the river every day.  On a good day of activity, you can see hundreds of these wonderful animals flying above you.

Afterward, we will return by boat to our accommodation for lunch and rest.

At night we will go in search of white caimans that are generally found on sand banks in the Madre de Dios River, for which it will be necessary to carry a flashlight. Finally, we will return to the lodge for dinner and rest.

Day 3 – Lake Sandoval & return to Madre de Dios

After breakfast, we will walk 3 km. in the middle of the dense tropical jungle. We will head towards Lake Sandoval, one of the largest lakes in the Tambopata National Reserve and we will ride a rowing boat from where we will spot a great variety of birds and monkeys of different species (shansho, cormorants, jacanas, buzzards, cotomono, friar monkey, and black machín). Perhaps we will have an encounter with a giant otter (almost two meters long) that is in danger of extinction.

Later, we will head back to the lodge for lunch and we will be transferred back to the city to catch our flight or bus to our next destination.
